Random Tuesday Video Game Stuff – 3/8/11

On top of Dragon Age 2 and Pokemon filling up my schedule (well, at least that’s the plan for the week), I’m sure these games, among others, are gonna pack your week quite nicely. Tuesday is a special day as you may or may not know. It’s the day when games usually get released out in the week and everyone is all like “I’mma go to Gamestop, buy mah video game, go homes and rip that thing open!”
For the rest of us that don’t really have such an agenda for that week, here’s where I come in with random bits of news that… I just don’t feel like writing a full article on. Enjoy!
- Japanese retailers have stated that the Nintendo 3DS is not gonna mess around with piracy this time around. A lot of it seems to involve a “play log” that detects everything that goes in the 3DS, video games or otherwise. It sort of sounds like how the Xbox 360 can detect pirated copies of their video games. Seems like Nintendo can choose to disable your 3DS (brick it basically) and will not allow you to resell it or anything. Of course, anything that a human can make, a human can break as well. This will slow down those video game piraters a bit though. [Source: Kotaku]
- After years and years of service, Square-Enix finally releases official forums for Final Fantasy XI. While this would be all great news for those (the few) that still play this MMORPG, there’s a question as to why now and why is it the way that it is? There are already established forums for FFXI within the community and heck, the forums are so disorganized and all over the place. Oh well… at least they have their Twitter account established recently. [Source: PlayOnline]
- Love playing Starcraft 2? Loved Starcraft 1′s Terran campaign? Some community modders have taken the time to replicate the Terran campaign from the original Starcraft into Starcraft 2. There were some subtle changes but otherwise, all voices, text, maps and unit stats have been ported over. You can check out this campaign back here! [Source: Gossip Gamers]
- Finally, Moonshot Games is releasing a 2D Sidescrolling shooter named Fallen Frontier. What is so special about this? Moonshot Games is a studio made from a few former Bungie employees and Fallen Frontier looks pretty impressive if I say so myself. Check out the trailer here!
