Capcom’s Captivate 2011 News Roundup – Street Fighter X Tekken

Over the weekend, Capcom hosted their annual Captivate event where they announce some nice juicy news about future Capcom titles. Among them were a few expected ones, with some news about the previously announced Street Fighter X Tekken and Asura’s Wrath. There were also some pleasant surprises such as Dead Rising 2: Off the Record and a brand new title: Dragon’s Dogma. Lets have a close look at Street Fighter x Tekken, the newest fighting game crossover by Capcom.
Street Fighter X Tekken is a game that most fighting game fans are familiar with and also a game that was kept under wraps for awhile, with little to no details being revealed until Captivate 2011. Street Fighter X Tekken will pit both popular franchises together in a 2-on-2 tag battle with Capcom leading the helm in the development of the game. Because of this, we can expect a more familiar Street Fighter flavor in the fighting system and will be more akin to the 2D fighting games that they are most popular for. Tekken fans, do not fear, as Capcom is taking every effort to make sure that Tekken fans will feel at home with the 6 button setup that SFxT will be using. For those that just don’t like the traditional 2D setup, Namco Bandai will be releasing their own version of this crossover battle with Tekken X Street Fighter. More details on that to be revealed much later.
Street Fighter X Tekken is something I want to play as a hardcore fighting game fan. I really would like to see how Capcom integrates the Tekken characters into an environment that is unfamiliar to the Tekken cast. It looks like chain combos that are usually seen in the Darkstalkers series (which btw, Capcom really needs to bring that back) are being used as a basis for combos here and includes elements such as EX moves and a launching combo mechanic.
For now, the following characters are revealed:
Street Fighter:
Ryu
Ken
Chun-Li
Guile
Abel
Tekken:
Kazuya
Nina
Marduk
King
Bob
You can expect Street Fighter X Tekken in 2012 on Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
