Gamestop Guts OnLive Code for Deus Ex; Gives 50 Dollar Gift Card In Return

A few days ago, Gamestop was reported to have been gutting out Deus Ex: Human Revolution PC Retail copies to remove the OnLive redemption code. Gamestop, seeing as they are starting their own streaming service soon, does not want to give their competition free advertising. Square Enix caught wind of this and decided to recall these copies to remove the OnLive code. Fans are pretty irate about it, threatening to cancel their pre-orders for Deus Ex at Gamestop and buying it elsewhere…
… However, those dedicated Gamestop fans (if you could call them that) that have purchased Deus Ex: Human Revolution with a gutted out copy recently had an e-mail dropped in their boxes today from Gamestop, stating that they can redeem themselves a $50 dollar gift card and a Buy 2, Get 1 used game free coupon due to these events. This has been confirmed by a few Redditors and a fellow The Mog Blog fan.
With how Gamestop was handling the situation previously, it does seem rather fitting that Gamestop would try to restore things by giving out giftcards, especially for a large sum. What about those that ended up cancelling their Gamestop preorders though? Either way, free money is free money and Dead Island is coming out soon… Something to think about.
