Resident Evil Outbreak PS2 Classic on PSN Possible?

Who you gonna call? CSI: Raccoon City!!

The appearance of PS2 games on the PlayStation Network has met with mixed reception. For those more on the optimistic side, some fans are asking if it’s possible to put Resident Evil Outbreak onto PSN, complete with online and the whole shebang. However, Christian Svensson, Corporate Officer/Senior Vice-President at Capcom USA, had this to say about the online multiplayer game:

“The problem with Outbreak is that, even if we put them up (if they could be emulated, there’s a lengthy vetting process), the servers to which they were supposed to connect are long gone. In short, it’d be a single player experience only.”

While this would leave many disappointed, it should be considered that these PS2 games are coming as is, with no remastering and no trophies, so games with features like online play would be stripped down. A better idea, in my opinion, would be to release Outbreak and Outbreak File #2 in HD, with fresh server support. I never played Outbreak, so my feelings are a bit mixed. Hopefully they find some way to work things out with Sony.

You could always go to Capcom-Unity’s thread about the game and make your voice heard (please be nice?).

I remember playing Outbreak way back when it was released. They gave you the option to install the game on the hard drive that had FFXI in i to lessen the loading time as some loading screens would take well over 15 seconds. What made it worse was that everyone in the game must have the game installed on the hard drive in order to make use of the fast loading that the hard drive would give you. Otherwise, it would default you to load straight from the DVD if even one person didn’t have the option enabled.

It would be cool to see Outbreak and Outbreak 2 back but I would rather see something brand new or potentially an Outbreak 3. It was really silly to communicate back then since you could only talk to each other using short phrases.

There were actually quite a number of titles that used that hard drive back on the PS2, majority of which either never saw it in their PS2 localization or not from what you would expect. Sega actually used it for their sports titles to reduced load times and etc.
