Evacuate? In Our Moment Of Triumph? My Thoughts on Star Wars: The Old Republic

I am absolutely hungry. Starving. I’m am ravishing. I’ve been looking high and low for that one game that might actually be capable of recapturing my long term interests. You know, the kind of game that I’ll be able to blow my entire weekend playing without feeling cheated out of my time. Yeah, it’s been a long time since I’ve come across such a game. And I’m hoping. Really hoping that this one, might be the one.
SWTOR please don’t suck. Because if you do, I might never forgive you. In fact, I probably won’t play MMOs again considering the horrible track record we’ve been having with them the last few years.
Yes, I love me some World of Warcraft. But I’m tired of it. Dead tired. Most people just want Warcraft to die a horrible death and never be spoken of again. I can’t tell you how many times I hear people saying “this” MMO or “that” MMO is going to be the death of WoW. Conan was supposed to do it. LOTRO was supposed to as well. So was Aion. And Warhammer Online. Final Fantasy XIV IS GOING TO KILL WOW! Yeah okay. We’ve all heard this bullshit rhetoric before. On every one of these occasions we all secretly wanted to see WoW disintegrate before our very eyes.
The only thing that’s going to kill off WoW is itself. Give Blizz enough rope and they’ll add pandas as a playable race. WAIT WAIT, Blizz I was just joking!!!!
The bottom line? Warcraft is a great game, and has placed an indelible mark on the gaming community that will be very difficult to realistically compete with unless another game shows up that does what WoW does better.
There will always be those diehards who will stay with a game to the very end, no matter how good or how shitty it is. But I can’t stomach the thought of being there when the servers of a game are finally shut off for the final time. If a game gets to that point then it’s obviously a waste of time and a complete failure from a financial perspective. Look at LEGO Universe. Barely lasted a year and already shutting down. You better fucking believe that if Warner Bros. Interactive invested the same amount of money that Square-Enix did into Final Fantasy XIV that the same shit would’ve happened to it.
It’s obvious that Square has a bigger money tree growing in their backyard.
You also better believe that the moment Star Wars: The Old Republic fails, if it fails, that Electronic Arts will pull that shit down faster than Charlie Sheen can snort a pound of coke out of the bleached asshole of a call-girl full of barbiturates.
BioWare I hope you’re prepared for an onslaught of menopausal pre-teen, post-pubescent, thirty something year old men who bitch more about being unsatisfied than I do after sex. Customer service and your response times to fiascos in SWTOR as they happen are going to determine whether or not you can overtake Blizzard’s market share. If you can handle all of those things you might stand a fighting chance. And even after all that you still might lose.
Good luck BioWare. Many of us have shown our unwavering support by pre-ordering. My advice? EVACUATE. Even in your moment of triumph. Never, ever, underestimate Blizzard’s chances when it comes to this MMO thing. Push this shit back if you guys feel that the product is unfinished or unpolished in any way. Seriously. I don’t give a damn. You guys have my money already. I just hope it’ll be money well spent.
I want SWTOR to provide me with the kind of experience that fills me with an unhealthy heroin-like obsession that I’ll long for when I’m not playing. Don’t fuck it up.
