Final Fantasy XIII-2 DLC Plans Detailed [1-31 UPDATED]

It seems Square Enix wants players to keep their copies of Final Fantasy XIII-2. They have outlined a downloadable content schedule that expands into March and maybe even later.

I don't think they carry Pokeballs for that size...

Let’s first start with what we know. Aside from pre-order costumes and weapons scattered about, we have the fight with Omega, a monster that can be recruited upon defeatin much like most of the other Pokemon creatures in the game. This boss battle is a pre-order bonus to those who are getting the game through Amazon, but I’m sure this will end up downloadable content not long after launch.

Captain Hook and Lightning battle for supremacy...Of what, I do not know

Now this particular DLC is what has people talking. A Coliseum battle with Lightning geared up in her outfit from the previous game. I don’t blame her, it’s not easy wearing metal and feathers all day. Lightning can also be recruited into the party upon defeat, which makes me ask, “What about the rest of the previous cast?” Square Enix has confirmed this battle will be available in Japan February 7 at the cost of 240 Microsoft Points or 300 Yen on the PlayStation Network (no word on overseas release date). That comes out to about $3 bucks. However, there is one more thing about this DLC battle that caught my attention…

A NEW WARRIOR HAS ENTERED THE RING!!

Who is this guy and what is up with that oversized giant mechanism that seems to be the Gatling Gunblade of Doom (not actually the weapon’s name)? This man is Lt. Adomar,Lightning’s superior who appeared in some flashbacks. Some time during the battle with Lightning in the Coliseum, he jumps into the fray. There was no word on whether or not he can be recruited, but I’m very sure the answer to that is no.

Lightning, what did I tell you about playing dress up in fantasyland!!! I'll see you in my office when this is over!

Square has also confirmed that, after releasing the Lightning battle, they will be releasing a second pack of costumes, a Resort Style bikini for Serah which will be released in February and an Assassin’s Creed costume for Noel which has not been dated. Sarah also has a costume designed from AKB48 idol Yuko Oshima, but that also has yet to be dated in Japan or even announced for overseas.

Also releasing post-Lightning battle is a scenario add-on, details unknown, as well as a third Coliseum battle in mid-March and the details on this are also unknown. Sounds like Square is going to be rather busy with that DLC. You know what would be really cool, though? If Lightning wasn’t the only character who can come back through DLC. Personally, I wouldn’t mind if Sazh or Fang got Coliseum battles. Those were my top two characters in Final Fantasy XIII and I will definitely miss using both of them.

UPDATE 1-31: Square just confirmed that North America and Europe will get Lightning Coliseum battle on February 7th as well!

Here’s a look at Noel’s Ezio outfit from Assassin’s Creed: Revelations
