Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode II Screenshots and Details Blazing

Sega had confirmed lots of changes for Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode II a while back when the first teaser trailer was revealed. Among the changes was a new and improved engine that enabled better visuals for the second entry of Sonic 4. Now, we get our first official batch of screenshots showing the game off. We get to see Sonic and Tails together through a few of the new zones. I could be wrong, but it feels like some of these zones were designed using multiple zones (the ice zone being Ice Cap + Carnival Night and the Aquatic Ruins-ish zone incorporating some Hydrocity water-running segments). A couple of images were leaked via an XBLA listing showing the return of Sonic 2′s special stage, as well as Sonic and Tails chasing Mecha Sonic.
Mark your calendars for Thursday the 23rd of this month, as a gameplay trailer will be revealed on Gamespot at 9am US Pacific time.
