Final Fantasy XI Lives On With New Expansion in 2013

It’s been a little over 10 years since Final Fantasy XI was released. Square Enix’s first major jump into the MMORPG genre, Final Fantasy XI has gone through a mostly static upbringing until rather recently with the release of the Abyssea digital add-ons.
Perhaps a huge throw from left field, announced during Square Enix’s Vana’Fest 2012, Final Fantasy XI would be given another expansion, except this time in a form of an actual full expansion rather than what we’ve seen during the last few years. Titled Seekers of Adoulin, there were initial hints of the expansion from the typical “let’s look at what companies are registering and trademarking” route.
This time players will be taken to the Far West where they will journey into the lands of the Ulbuka Continent and the Sacred City of Adoulin. There will be two brand new jobs introduced in this expansion: The constantly requested Geomancer and the magical defensive tanking Rune Fencers.
Manga Artist Kazushi Hagiwara, who is best known for the Bastard!! Mangas, has done the artwork for the new job specific artifact gear for both the Geomancer and Rune Fencer.
There is no current information on pricing or a specific release date. Those that are looking to go back into Vana’diel and have long deactivated their account may want to jump in on the game to catch up on leveling before the release of this expansion.
It should also be noted that they did not mention a PlayStation 2 release of this expansion. Perhaps PS2 Limitations are now a thing of the past.
