Project Sora Closes Down

This is something to be a bit bummed out about. Project Sora, the development studio within Nintendo that is responsible for Kid Icarus: Uprising, has closed shop effective June 30th. Created after the release of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Satoru Iwada and Masahiro Sakurai founded Project Sora and released… well, just one game.

I would like to take this time to say that I am pretty sad to see this company split up. Kid Icarus: Uprising was good in concept and Nintendo pushed it out as much as they could. It featured a robust multiplayer mode that reflects on the state of Super Smash Bros. in that it wasn’t serious enough to take competitively but it fun enough for everyone involved.

That said, Namco Bandai will be handling the new Super Smash Bros. game with supervision from Sakurai. It’s exciting to see what will come out of this.
