Happy 13th Birthday SEGA Dreamcast!

While not the true 13th birthday of the Dreamcast (the Japanese release predates it almost a whole year), it is the 13th year anniversary of the Dreamcast’s release in North America.

I want to bring this up again because the Dreamcast, to me and many others, was a system that had a lot of potential but was mainly going against the grain as the next generation of systems were flying out. The PlayStation 2, the Xbox, and the Gamecube made the Dreamcast a system that became pointless when compared to these powerhouses.

As we look forward to the future, we’ll probably never see SEGA releasing another console ever again. However, the legacy that the Dreamcast has left behind still lives on through the games and IPs introduced during this time. There are also some hidden gems that are worth seeking down that may or may not be available on other systems. The Dreamcast system itself can easily be had for $40 dollars and the game discs may or may not be easily accessible. However, with some luck (and hopefully without resorting to some piracy), you should be able to generate a decent library.

Here’s some of my favorite games on the Dreamcast:

Chu Chu Rocket

Typing of the Dead

Power Stone 2

Project Justice
