“MODEL2?! The heck is that?” Back in the 90s, SEGA developed an arcade system board called the Sega Model 2, the successor of the Model 1. Not only did it generate fancy polygons, it also provided textures for those polygons and took a step forward with 3D.
SEGA will be bringing back five titles to PSN/XBLA. Even though the trailer only announces the Japanese version, generally SEGA releases like these are bound for international simultaneous release. On the menu are Virtua Fighter 2, Fighting Vipers, Sonic the Fighters, Virtua Striker, and the original Virtual On.
Virtua Fighter 2 will be something that people will remember from the arcade days. It will feature online play as well as adding in the ability to play with version 2.0 or 2.1 adjustments .
Fighting Vipers, the cousin of Virtua Fighter, adds more flash and armor into the hand-to-hand brawl. While it’s based on the arcade version, Mahler will be a playable character despite him only being playable on the Saturn version. Online play is also expected.
Sonic the Fighters has seen a recently re-release on the Sonic Gems Collection. Metal Sonic and Dr. Robotnik will be playable. However, for the first time ever, Honey the Cat who is supposed to be based on Honey/Candy from Fighting Vipers will be completed and restored for this release. Yeah, online play too.
These three titles will be released separately for $10 dollars or 800 MSP each. There is plans to release a full set for a discounted price on PSN.
As for Virtua Striker and Virtual On, don’t expect these two until 2013. Though, if you’re that hardcore into Virtual On, Hori will be taking preorders for the Virtual On stick which is also good for the previously released Virtual On Oratorio Tangram or Virtual On Force if you imported it (The Asian version is region-free, mind you).
