The Mog Blog’s Extra Life 2012
What is Extra Life?
For the last four years, thousands of gamers have joined together annually to play for 24 hours for Extra Life – a gaming marathon in support of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals®. Gamers rally friends and family members to sponsor their play. The funds they raise go to help save and improve the lives of kids at the CMN Hospital in their community.
Since 2008, our incredible players have raised more than 2 million dollars, and this year, on October 20th, 2012 we believe they will outdo themselves yet again.
Last year, The Mog Blog took part in a 24-hour gaming session for Gaming and Giving for Good (G3) which was streamed live on their Twitch channel. MogKnight along with his friends and partners have managed to raise $275 total from the event. This year, The Mog Blog will be going at it again for Extra Life. This time around we made our goals higher, have our set of games ready, and going in full-force to support the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
We will be doing our 24-hour Stream for Extra Life on October 20th 2012 starting at 7AM PST. You can catch the stream live at http://www.twitch.tv/mogknight.
Our Mission and Goal!
For this year, we want to focus on everything that reminds us why we play video games in the first place. We feel that these moments that we spend in front of a screen with controller in hand are short moments in our lives that we can only cherish for so long with our busy schedules. Many have used this time to bond with their spouses, siblings, and of course their children. We want to emphasize that gaming is not just a trend but something that is integrated into our world that it simply cannot be ignored. As such, we want to use these 24 hours to show a variety of games, from old to new, from indie to AAA, from all around the world. We invite you to take a seat around our TV and join us as we play through various generations of games.
While our donation page shows a goal of $750 this year, our real goal is to raise awareness of what these hospitals do and raise awareness as to how we never ever spend enough time with our friends and family. By donating, you’re giving sick children a chance to have more bonding time with their families, and while we can only hope that they may do so by picking up a controller and game, just being able to give them a chance to spend more time is more than what we can ask for. In a sense, we hope that you are willing to bring in more friends and family into your gaming life. Besides, who wants to go at it alone at Borderlands 2? I know I don’t.
“WHAT?! PRIZES?!”
We’ve also chosen to drop the gauntlet this time around. We plan to do giveaways during our stream and will be raffling off some items for donators.
Game Codes
Throughout the Stream, we’ll be giving out redemption codes. So far we’ve acquired a handful of Steam codes for a mix-bag of games. These are codes are either leftover codes that we just happen to have, codes that people have graciously donated to us, and codes that we just straight up purchased. How do you get them? We’ll be handing them out throughout the stream for those that are watching and are willing to “play our little games.”
What codes/games do we have to give out? Glad you asked!
(All are Steam Codes unless otherwise noted)

Raffles!
I’m not at liberty to really speak details about this yet since they’re still under construction, but to those that throw down $10 dollars, you have will a chance to win one of five hand-crafted items made by a friend of ours. They’re still being made at this moment, but here’s a quick sample:
We will be giving five of these items. Complete details will be posted soon!
“I don’t care much for the prizes, but I want to donate!”
Good! If you don’t feel inclined to enter any giveaways or want to take part in any raffles, you can donate right now by going to our Donation Page and donate whatever your heart wants. If you donate now and want to opt in for prizes later, we will have a system in place to accommodate for that.
